Wardrobe Items to Toss Out in 2022

A ccording to Business Insider, an average person only wears 20% of the items in their closet. Shocking? It’s true.

Hope you can relate when we say that often items end up in the wardrobe as an outcome of the impulsive purchase, or trying to experiment but not feeling it.

We have all been there; it’s also normal and relatable to hold on to items that you once used and cherished. But not so much anymore.

Those least used wardrobe items are usually lying somewhere at the back of our closet.

Let’s look into what those could be for you, and if you want to give them away in 2022!

Patterned Or Basic Leggings/Jeggings

This may be one of the least wardrobe items in your closet right now, but not entirely useless.

The verdict is still out on whether patterned leggings are still fashionable or not. According to Eliza Huber at Who What Wear, the legging trend still feels fresh.

Patterned leggings? Don’t know about that. The best is to ask yourself, when did you wear it last, and do you dig this style anymore?

Embellished Jackets

Remember the time when it was all about oversized, tasseled, sequenced, painted, or printed jackets?

Yeah, that time might be gone now, buddy!

In 2022, embellished jackets may just be another of those wardrobe items which we keep, but hardly ever wear.

Whilst embellished jackets were the big trendy thing of the early and mid-2000s, it’s time to redo the closet with what’s in now!

Wedged Sneakers

Sure, they were the hot and funky trend in the early 2010s but now, they are a no-no!

Wedged chunky sneakers have not been in fashion for as nearly a decade and many of us might be guilty of still holding on to them. If you are having trouble giving them away, ask yourself, “when was the last time you wore them?”.

If the answer is later than a year, then you know what to do.

Distressed Skinny Jeans

Distressed skinny jeans were a go-to for a long time.

Millennials can especially relate to picking up a blade, and distressing their jeans when their favorite jeans were not available in a distressed fashion.

They have served us for a long time; comfortable, casual, and quite stylish looking too.

2022 is all about mommy jeans, loose-straight denim pants, and wide-legged denim.

Whilst skinny jeans are still pretty much a staple in every wardrobe, distressed skinny jeans are not so much.

This year, it’s all about comfortable fashion clothing.

Lacey Tops

They look adorable and pretty. Lacey or crochet tops and dresses are in almost everyone’s wardrobe.

How often do we wear it? Depends totally on our style. For myself, lacey tops and dresses are not an often go-zone and mostly lay around in my wardrobe.

If you are in the same boat as I am, you know this is probably one of the least used wardrobe items in your closet too.

Surprisingly, some celebrities are rocking their delicate and lacey undergarments as the IT outfit and we seem to be digging the looks. Click here for more details on how you can style your innerwear.

Tight T-Shirts & Button Downs

To complement the overall casual comfort look, body-fitted t-shirts, and button-downs are other items that may go more neglected than previously.

The current style is pretty much about loose-fit shirts, baggy t-shirts, and boyfriend cuts.

An oversized shirt and t-shirt can be styled in many ways, whilst the elderly fitted ones could only be played around with so much.

In Style has a feature on how you can ditch the tight tees, and style the oversized ones.

Adapting to Fashion

With the new year only one quarter in, we all plan the ‘new year, new me’ looks and attitudes.

We add new items of clothing and take out some. Some are always left the same way still, out of love or good memories.

How many items in your wardrobe are such, and how many are your practical routine wear? That’s for you to answer.

Whilst fashion and trends are always evolving, the most and least used wardrobe items in your closet will majorly depend on your style.

So, stick to those items you enjoy wearing and can carry off well too!

And those wardrobe items that do not belong there anymore, just do not belong.

Happy cleaning to you!
