Ways of Feeding Carrots To Your Dog

Before you add carrots to your dog’s diet routine, consult your dog’s vet first. This is to check if your dog has any hidden allergies that you need to keep in mind. Introduce carrots to your dog in small amounts. A full carrot can be a choking hazard, so make sure to dice it to bite-sized pieces before feeding it to your dog.

Raw Carrots

Grating and Peeling

While making a carrot dish for yourself, don’t throw away the peels. Rather keep these peels and slice them into smaller pieces to add to your dog’s meals. This is especially helpful if your dog is a picky eater. Grating carrots on top of your dog’s food is also a great way to get it to ingest this nutritious vegetable. Start adding grated or peeled carrots to your dog’s food in small amounts so it can get used to the taste.

Carrot Juice

For dogs that dislike the taste of carrots or are not vegetable lovers, peel your carrots and put them through a juicer to get all the goodness extracted in the form of delicious carrot juice. You can pour this juice into your dog’s regular meal and it will be fit for consumption. However, fiber content is lost so make sure your dog is getting its fiber from other sources. If you can sneak in some of that pulp, go for it!

Frozen Carrot Bites

Grate your carrots using a cheese grater or thinly slice them using a vegetable slicer. After this is done, mash them using pastel and mortar or add some water into a blender with your grated or sliced carrots and give it a whirl. Take your carrot mush and shape it into small bite-sized pieces and freeze them in an ice tray. These frozen carrot cubes can be given to your dogs as snacks and puppies for teething purposes. These yummy frozen treats will especially be a delight during the summers.

Cooked Carrots

Steamed Carrots

Steaming carrots is a great way to retain both nutritional value and flavor of the carrots. Another benefit of steaming is that once the carrots are a bit softer, they become easier to chew and digest. These lower the choking risk and are easily ingestible.

  • Cut the carrot into small cubes or sticks
  • Line them on a steaming basket
  • Fill the steamer or saucepan with a cup of water.
  • Place the steaming basket and lid in their places and switch on the stove
  • Once the water starts boiling, let the carrots steam for 8-10 minutes
  • Let them cool once steamed and feed them to your dog.

Carrot Cookies

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Mash your carrots like mentioned above
  • Mix the carrot mash with whole wheat or all-purpose flour and a small amount of water to make a dough
  • Take pieces of the dough and shape them into the shape you want (circles, bones, etc.)
  • Line the cookie dough on a baking sheet and bake until golden brown
  • Let them cool down and feed them to your dog whenever needed.

These are some nice and healthy tips on how to feed carrots to your dog. Keep these in mind whenever you plan on adding this vegetable to your dog’s diet regime!
