T he delicious aroma of bread as it bakes in the oven on a warm Sunday has an unmatched joy and comfort associated with it. Baking bread for the first time can be intimidating. But rest assured that it is much much easier than it seems.

Even if you have never dipped your fingers into the art of bread baking, these recipes for easy bread to make at home can be a great place to start. Once you start baking your own bread and get to taste that fluffy goodness right out of the oven, there’s no going back.

Here are some great bread recipes for beginners that require the most basic ingredients and are excellent for beginners.

White Sandwich Bread

The most basic, yet most staple, of bread is the first type of bread you want to learn once you start your bread baking journey. For this bread, you just need seven ingredients.

Ingredients:

  1. All-purpose flour
  2. Yeast
  3. Eggs
  4. Sugar
  5. Salt
  6. Instant yeast
  7. Butter

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sieve together flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix your wet ingredients with warm water.
  4. Mix your wet and dry ingredients and combine them into a dough with your hands. Knead this dough for about 5-6 minutes and shape it into a ball.
  5. Place this ball of dough into another large bowl after greasing it with butter. Cover your bowl with a cling wrap and wet towel for about an hour to allow the dough to rise.
  6. Take this dough out and cut it into two equal halves. Place these halves into two separate greased bread pans. Cover these pans again for about an hour.
  7. Take off the cover, the dough will have risen again. Brush the tops of the dough with egg wash and pop them into a preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Let your loaves cool for half an hour before cutting them into slices.

Whole Wheat Bread

Whole wheat bread can be made with the same recipe as the basic white sandwich bread. The only difference in ingredients is, of course, using whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose white flour. You can also use honey, brown sugar, or molasses in place of granulated white sugar. This brings out the delicious taste of wheat and gives a faintly sweet, delicious taste to your homemade bread.

Pita Bread

Pita bread is a classic Greek flatbread that can be served with a variety of dips, spreads, and side dishes. You can also make delicious sandwiches with your favorite fillings and pita bread. Pita bread is simple and easy to make and is usually cooked on a pan or skillet instead of an oven.

In place of all-purpose flour, you may also use whole wheat flour. The correct way to do this is to mix 50% whole wheat flour and 50% all-purpose flour in your dough.

Ingredients

  1. Yeast
  2. Sugar
  3. All-purpose flour
  4. Salt
  5. Olive oil

Method

  1. Mix together yeast and sugar with warm water and allow it to froth.
  2. Sieve together flour and salt, once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to your dry ingredients and knead into a dough. Add more warm water in case it is too dry. In the case of the dough becoming too loose and sticky, add more flour.
  3. Once the dough is ready, knead it so it becomes smooth and round.
  4. Brush the dough with oil and place it in a bowl covered with cling wrap and a damp kitchen towel. Leave it for an hour to rise.
  5. Once it has risen, take it out and divide it into evenly sized pieces, shape those pieces into tight balls. Let them rest for another 10-15 minutes.
  6. Flatten these balls into 8-inch discs and punch holes on the top side with a fork or with your knuckles.
  7. Place these discs one at a time in a preheated skillet brushed with olive oil. Cover the skillet and let it cook on low heat for 8-10 minutes on each side.
  8. Once they are done, serve with hummus, lentil soup, salsa, or any dish of your liking!
